Student Instructions for Initial Athletic Participation

All student athletes MUST complete athletic participation requirements prior to participation. Forms and fees must be submitted in their entirety to Manual’s athletic office prior to the beginning of the student’s athletic participation prior to the first swim practice/no later than OCTOBER 1st. 

Team Costs

For Divers and USA Club Practice Swimmers:  $160

For Team Practice Swimmers:   $260 (Extra cost for pool use at Blairwood)

Training

• USS Swimmers continue to train with USS teams (dMHS Coaches will visit throughout the season)
• Non-USS swimmers will train at Genesis (Blairwood) Health Club on most Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 7:30-9:00 pm. Please review the team practice calendar on this site for specific dates. **Attendance is not mandatory at all practices - Student athletes should try to attend 2-3 practices per week. 
• Divers will train with the US Diving program at UofL (Louisville Dive Club). More information can be found at louisvilldiveclub.com. (Please note there is an additional cost for participation.) Dive meets will be held on select Fridays TBD. 

Meets

The season typically begins mid-November and concludes with the KHSAA State Championships in late February.  

• Dual Meets last approximately 2.5 hours and are generally held on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 6-8:30pm.  
• Invites/Invitational Meets last approximately 3-5 hours and are generally held on a Friday evening or Saturday morning/afternoon.

Meet Expectations: The Swim & Dive Meet schedule will be updated as meets are scheduled. Dual and Invite meets are open to every team member. Meet rules limit swimmers to 4 total events/2 individual events at each meet. There will be approximately 4 Dive only meets at UofL (3 x6 Dives, 1 X11 Dive). ALL swimmers will be expected to RSVP for every meet using our SwimTopia website, so the coaches will know their intent to participate in each meet. We encourage swimmers to attend as many swim meets as possible, but understand that academics and USA meet schedules could conflict.

Regionals

Each team will be allowed to enter 4 swimmers/divers per event and one relay in the Regional Meet. Swimmers/Divers must compete in Regionals in order to qualify for KHSAA STATE Championship meet. 

Additional Notes

Our team succeeds due to the dedication from parents as well as the athletes and coaches. Parents/Families play a vital role and will be expected to contribute to the function of the team throughout the season. Each meet will require 13 timers, 2-3 KHSAA swim officials, a computer operator, a runner, and a gate attendant. Swim, and Dive Booster Board members and Committee Chairs coordinate Team Activities, Spirit Wear, Senior Night, and an end-of-the-season Banquet. Please watch for opportunities to contribute throughout the season.

**The swim and dive boosters will be happy to assist if you are interested in becoming a certified KHSAA Official. If you are already a USS or Summer league official, we are able to help with the cross-over process. 

Encouraged actions by our spectators include:

• Gain an understanding and appreciation for the rules of the game. None of our coaches, officials, or students will be 100% perfect all of the time.
• Exercise positive behavior at all times.
• Exhibit respect for the opponents and officials at all times.
• Represent yourself, your student, and Manual in the best possible light.

Unacceptable behavior includes:

• Insubordination to referees, coaches, or other school personnel supervising the activity.
• Fighting, intimidation of, or attempt to intimidate, or taunting of referees, coaches, players, participants, or spectators.
• Verbal abuse or use of profane or obscene words or gestures during a game or activity.
• Disruptive behavior or conduct.

Please know that unacceptable behavior will be addressed by game management and not allowed to continue.
